APPLICATION GUIDELINES AND SUGGESTIONS

The Loyola Foundation was founded to provide assistance for overseas Roman Catholic mission projects, primarily in developing countries. The Loyola Foundation gives preference to requests that demonstrate local community support and engagement

The average grant made by the Foundation is $10,000. Requests must be capital in nature (i.e. construction, equipment, vehicles) and be self-sustaining upon completion. Requests that have acquired matching contributions, as well as those requests that, if funded, would complete a project receive special consideration. Requests for projects whose cost are in excess of $50,000 can only be considered if at least 75 percent of the funds needed to complete the project have been secured from other sources

The Foundation does not accept requests for operating expenses, scholarships, tuition, endowment funds, travel expenses or meeting costs. The Foundation does not make grants for continuing subsidies, emergency needs, minor seminaries or individuals.

Applicants may write to info@loyolafoundation.org, or via fax or regular mail (see contact information below), with a brief description of the project funding is sought for. In addition, applicants may complete and submit an application online and send as many supplementary materials as possible via email and/or fax; or applicants may print out the application form and submit it and supplementary materials via regular mail. Applicants may also request an application form to be sent to them by mail. Once the application has been reviewed, the applicant will be notified and a grant number will be assigned. Please use this assigned grant number in all future correspondence related to a given request.

Applicants must fill out the application and submit all supporting materials in English.

Completed applications are considered by the Trustees of the Loyola Foundation at their regularly scheduled meetings, usually in June and December. Completed applications must be received by April 30 for consideration at the June meeting and by Oct. 31 for the December meeting.

Due to the high volume of submissions, applications received in late April or in late October might not be considered for the corresponding funding cycle. These requests will then be considered in the next funding cycle. The Loyola Foundation recommends applicants complete and submit applications as far ahead of the deadlines as possible.

Because of the large number of requests received by the Foundation, applicants are advised to submit applications to other organizations at the same time. It is important that all organizations to which applications for the same project have been submitted be advised when one of the other organizations makes a grant. Please list these additional applications when applying to the Loyola Foundation.

Only one request per diocese can be considered in a given year. Applications are held for a period of one year only from time of submission. Individual grant recipients must wait a minimum of three years before reapplying to the Loyola Foundation.

Applicants must be aware that the total in grant requests in any given funding cycle may exceed the Foundation's budget for the period. In some cases, applications with great merit may be denied for that reason.

Letters of inquiry, applications, supplementary materials and all correspondence may be submitted electronically, by fax or by mail:
